More confidence, new friends, better health.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN
THE FIRST CLASS?
Class:
A typical class starts with a moderate warm up. This usually involves jogging around the room incorporated with light calisthenics. The warm up continues with daily Jiu Jitsu drills that focus on the basic movements of the sport.
After warm ups the coach starts instruction of a specific foundational movement while the class watches. After a few minutes of instruction the class pairs off and lightly drills the learned technique.
The last 20 to 30 minutes of class involves live practice. This is where the cardio kicks in. Live practice or rolling involves two students using the skills they have learned to attempt to submit their teammate.
Private Lesson:
We offer a free intro lesson for new members that consists of a private 1 on 1 lesson with a ranked instructor. During this lesson your coach will show the fundamentals and help you get familiar with the basics.
"Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to survive on the mat and thrive in the world."
- Rickson Gracie.
"To be champion all you have to do is train. But first, one must be a good person. Be a friend at the academy, learn to help. To be good at Jiu-Jitsu it’s all about believing and training, there isn’t that much else you can do."
- Rodolfo Vieira
"The rule is to train, train and train some more. Train until the lamb becomes the lion."
Brandon Olsen is the Head Instructor for Equipe Behring USA. Professor Olsen grew up wrestling in Western Montana. He lived in Ecuador for a couple of years before attending college at Montana State University-Northern in Havre, MT. He quickly joined their wrestling team under Head Coach David Ray, who served as Assistant Coach to the iconic Olympic Gold Medalist Tom Brands at Iowa (a famous wrestling program). Ray led a stellar group to two NAIA Team national titles. Olsen narrowly missed becoming an All-American. Waiting for the next wrestling season, fate, it seemed, had a different destiny for him. He discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!
While training BJJ, Olsen proved to be a natural. He picked up the art quickly never forgetting his wrestling roots, but leaving behind collegiate sports. It was here that Olsen met Peter Iacavazzi who introduced him to the Behring Family and their line of Jiu-Jitsu. Olsen is Iacavazzi's best student and was his first promoted black belt in BJJ. He pursued MMA and soon fought as a Pro in many events and for many titles, winning several. He is a 5X Grapplers Quest Submission Wrestling National Champion, a 3X Open Weight (Absolute) Runner-up. He wrestled for 2X NAIA National Champions MSU-Northern. He also fought for WEC World Championship Title MMA. Recently, Professor Olsen has earned podium finishes in multiple IBJJF Gi and No Gi competitions. He has a bronze and silver finish in the Master's World Championships with a gold shortly to follow, no doubtedly.
Now, Professor Olsen spends his time training future champions. His school in Hamilton, MT is home to many students. Having produced three black belts of his own (Professor Brown included), Olsen focuses on building more. His children, no surprise, are now following in his footsteps and have started their own wall of trophies.
